HARWICH To say that it was a tough night for the Monomoy girls basketball team would be overstating the obvious, but in spite of a tough 46-5 loss to Nauset on Dec. 15, the Sharks worked tirelessly throughout the game regardless of the scoreboard.

Monomoy's lone basket came from senior captain Maddie Leonard, who found the hoop in the third quarter, with the remaining three points coming from successful free throws by Leonard and teammate Leah Nash.

The game, however, belonged to the Warriors, who netted nine points in the opening frame and continued to play with intensity for the game's remainder, even as the score grew noticeably lopsided.

Francesca Gonnella was the top scorer for Nauset with 12 points, followed by Reagan Meehan and Ashley Ross each with six, while Emma Shackleford scored five and Avery Burns and Kiley Vitale each added three.

Nauset doesn't play next until Dec. 28, while Monomoy was slated to host Cape Cod Tech at home on Tuesday (Dec. 19), with their next home game tonight (Dec. 21) against Falmouth Academy beginning at 7 p.m. After that the team is off until Jan. 5 when they travel to Hyannis to face St. John Paul II.
