Harwich Elementary School

The newly formed 18-member HES School Council had its first meeting recently. The next meeting will be on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m, in our activity room. Members include administrators Sam Hein, co-chair, and Mary Oldach; parents Gregory/Marcie Gogol, Jean Copeland, Martha Anne/John Larivee, Adam Capen, Teresa Sprague, Justin/Holly, Tavano, Mariah/Greg Tillman; community representatives Kathy Smith, Abby Newberry West, Eric Beebe, Karen Booth; and teacher representatives Lisa McManamin/Pat Smith, Becky Tobojka, Katie Carey, Meg Shaffer, Katie Cloney/Noelle Southworth, and Mary Levy.

Monomoy Regional High School

MRHS' first Shark "Think" Tank Forum, Rethinking School, will be held Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. in the library.

Our students, families, staff, administration and community have worked together over the last three years to set a clear vision, mission, core values/beliefs and 21st century learning expectations to guide the goal of moving the school from good to great. The forum is open to all students, families, staff and community members. This will be the first in a series of forums to share what is valued education, hear firsthand from students and answer the following question: What do you believe about how children learn most powerfully and deeply in their lives? Not just you personally, but what do you believe as a school community?

Student Council Members surprised principal Burkhead during Jawsome Hour on Wednesday with a pleasant card and custom-made "Core Values" tie celebrating National Principal's Month. It was a powerful and generous message by the student council and advisor Ms. Weekes. Mr. Burkhead responded, "I am just so blessed to work in a school where the students and staff are so thoughtful and kind, thank you!"

Peer leaders joined forces with the MRHS news team (and teachers Ms. Coughlin and Mr. Cass) to mention one compliment a day for the month about Mr. Burkhead on the morning news program in celebration of National Principal's month. When Mr. Burkhead found out he responded, "Wow, I am blown away! Thank you peer leaders and TV/production team for this kind gesture. Thirty-one positive compliments is amazing; my wife and kids could only think of five."

September Wellness Student of the Month is Dayana Paez, chosen for her notable work in culinary arts and nutrition class. She is helpful to her peers, takes initiative in completing daily tasks, works clean and safe, and is always enthusiastic about the food being made.

Seniors win the MRHS annual Powder Puff Game 14-6! Another enjoyable evening during spirit week as hundreds of students participated in the annual capture the flag tournament, followed by the traditional Junior vs. Senior Class Powder Puff football game. Thank you to class advisors Ms. Yarnall, Mr. Stanley, Ms. Robinson, Officer Clarke and all the terrific staff and parents who came out to support this MRHS tradition.
