CHATHAM – Selectmen Tuesday named seven residents to the committee charged with examining possible uses for the Eldredge Garage property, recently purchased by the town for $2.5 million.
Named to the Eldredge Garage property planning committee were Sandy Wycoff, owners of the Chatham Clothing Bar; Scott Hamilton of Chatham Jewelers; former Independence Day parade committee chairman Brad Schiff; resident John Kaar; historical commission chairman Frank Messina; Old Village resident Winnie Lear; and chamber of commerce executive director Lisa Franz.
Selectmen Dean Nicastro and Shareen Davis will also serve on nine-member the committee, which is charged with examining and making recommendations to selectmen on the use of the Eldredge Garage property. While parking was the chief use discussed when voters approved buying the land in January, other possible uses include as a park and affordable housing.
Chairman of Selectmen Cory Metters urged everyone who applied for the committee – including two abutters and members of the finance committee – as well as interested residents to participate as the group deliberates on potential uses of the two-acre parcel.
“We're going to need as much input in this as possible,” he said. “It's a clean slate.”
Director of Community Development Katie Donovan will serve as staff liaison. The committee is also free to invited presentations or input from the finance committee or other groups in town.
