HARWICH ─ Don't let the scoreboard fool you. While the D-Y Dolphins eked out a run in last Thursday's pitcher's duel against Monomoy, the D4 Sharks held their own against the D2 Dolphins in the 1-0 outing.

Monomoy pitcher Mollie Charest continued her stellar season with 14 strikeouts in seven innings of game play at Potters Field, while teammate Hannah Potter went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Sharks.

The Dolphins plated the game's lone run in the top of the seventh with a hit to center from Julia Kent, who scored Jess Frisch. The win means a sweep in the two-game series between the teams, while each won one game against the other last season.

“It was a great game,” said Monomoy head coach Stacy Yarnall. “We missed some bunting opportunities, but other than that, the girls did good. I can't wait to see them again next year!”

While the Sharks had hits, including one each from Sam Barr, Emma Thacher, Carlee Tolley and Kathleen Prescott, bringing runners around the bases proved challenging. Charest kept the Sharks in it, working the team out of a jam in the fourth when D-Y loaded the bases, striking out Dani West to keep the game scoreless.

Charest did it again in the sixth when the Dolphins had two runners in scoring position, this time striking out Jayda Davis in three pitches.

The Sharks dominated their first vacation week game against Sandwich, coming away with a 12-0 victory in which Karley Marchese hit a grand slam in the sixth inning, finishing with a total of five runs brought in for her team.

Charest limited the Blue Knights to only three hits in six innings, while fanning five, while at bat Emma Thacher went 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Sam Barr went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

The Sharks host Nantucket today (April 27) at 4 p.m. and return to Potters Field again tomorrow for another 4 p.m. contest against Barnstable.
