Monomoy Softball Blanks Rising Tide In Season Opener

The Monomoy girls softball team opened their 2017 season with a 12-0 shutout of Rising Tide last week. Mollie Charest had 11 strikeouts in the outing, and also went 2-for-3 at bat, swinging into a home run for the Sharks.

Carlee Tolley and Hannah Potter also had strong games, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

On Monday, the Sharks traveled to Sandwich, coming away with a 12-3 win. Charest had 10 strikeouts, and went 4-for-5 at the plate with yet another solo homerun.
Hannah Potter went 3-for-6 with three RBIs, while Carlee Tolley also went 3-for-6. Emma thacher went 2-for-3 and Sam Barr went 2-for-4.

Monomoy Grad Shines In Baseball Debut With UMass Dartmouth

Monomoy graduate David Nichols had a stellar outing on the mound in his debut with the UMass baseball team, throwing four strikeouts in his first career start with the team in the second of two games against Roger Williams on March 29. The Corsairs fell in the first game, but behind Nichols, and thanks to solid batting, won the second game 10-2 in five innings.

Cape Cod Senior Softball League Seeking New Players For 2017 Season

The Cape Cod Senior Softball League is looking for new players for the 2017 season. New player orientation and evaluation clinics will take place April 22 and 29 beginning at noon at Potter and Memorial fields in Harwich. Candidates should attend at least one evaluation clinic to be able to be placed on a team this season. League play begins May 15 and continues twice a week through Labor Day. Players are eligible to participate if they reach the age of 55 anytime during the 2017 calendar year. The CCSSL is a slow-pitch softball league for individuals 55 years and older. The league mission is to promote fun, fitness and friendship in a safe, yet competitive environment. The league is organized into multiple divisions based on players’ ages and skill levels. Roman Greer Named Top 50 Kids Golf Teacher

NORCROSS, GA – Roman Greer, director of golf at Cranberry Valley Golf Course in Harwich, has been named to the U.S. Kids Golf’s annual list of Top 50 Kids Teachers. The award recognizes the world’s most outstanding youth golf instructors, and Greer is part of a select group that earned Top 50 accolades among nearly 350 applicants.

The Top 50 Kids Teachers of 2016 includes golf professionals from 26 states, Canada, England and Kenya. Each year, award recipients include teachers who work at public, private, resort and municipal courses.

Cranberry Valley To Host Military Golf Event

Cranberry Valley is joining forces with the Salute Military Golf Association of Boston (SMGA-Boston) for a special tournament in Harwich. Wounded/injured combat veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan and other wars are invited to play golf alongside Cranberry Valley members, beginning at 8 a.m. May 8. This is a unique and personal way of thanking these men and women for the sacrifices they made for this country's freedom. The mission is to develop a sustainable golf program for Cape Cod veterans, including lessons, equipment, and playing opportunities, with Cranberry Valley serving as their home course.
