U.S. Coast Guard night vision cameras record the rescue of a boater from North Beach Island Tuesday afternoon.

CHATHAM A Chatham man was cold and wet but uninjured after his boat capsized near the north inlet late Tuesday afternoon.

Harbormaster Stuart Smith said the single man aboard the 22-foot center console boat, identified as fisherman Justin Pascarelli of Chatham, was in the area of the inlet when his boat rolled in the surf. Smith said Pascarelli waded to a nearby sand bar, and thanks to a waterproof cell phone, called the harbormaster for assistance.

Smith responded to the area with two Chatham firefighters, and when they reached the location, the firefighters donned survival suits and waded to the man's assistance. A Coast Guard helicopter happened to be in the air at the time and diverted to the scene to offer assistance. Rather than try and bring Pascarelli through the water to the harbormaster boat for the trip to shore, rescuers opted to hoist him aboard the helicopter. Pascarelli was airlifted to Air Station Cape Cod.

As of Thursday morning, the overturned boat was inside Pleasant Bay in the vicinity of Strong Island, and was posing a hazard to navigation.
