Chatham Council On Aging December Schedule

CHATHAM – The following council on aging events are scheduled this month. Most take place at the Stony Hill Road senior center and require registration or reservations. For information or to register for a program, call the COA at 508-945-5190.

Monday, Dec. 5, Holiday Extravaganza Lunch and Show, “Making Spirits Bright,” featuring Tom Madden. Noon, tickets $9. Space is limited, reservations are required.

Friday, Dec. 9, Annual Tree Lighting Parade and Ceremony at Sears Park. The community is invited to meet at the community center for the parade that begins at 5:45 p.m. and proceeds down Main Street to Sears Park. The COA bus will provide transportation to the tree lighting ceremony which follows at 6 p.m. Refreshments and a scenic ride around Chatham will finish out the evening. Space is limited.

Monday, Dec. 12, lunch and a show, “Oh What Fun,” entertainment by Nick Pangakis, noon. Tickets $9.

Harwich singer-guitarist Nick Pangakis will perform his country-rock acoustic music. Transportation is available, space is limited and reservations are required.

Wednesday, Dec. 14, day trip to Sandwich, including the Sandwich Glass Museum, and lunch at the British Beer Company. Museum admission is $5, lunch at the cost of the diner. Reservations are required, transportation is free. Space is limited. Bus departs the COA at 8:45 a.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 14, December birthday celebration, 2 p.m. Guests are encouraged. Transportation is available.

Thursday, Dec. 15, Annual Christmas Sweater Party, 1:30 p.m. We’re having a party and things are going to get ugly. Wear your most horrible or loveliest holiday sweater. Prizes will be awarded, judging by Busy Fingers. Free dessert bar, compliments of The Old Harbor Inn. RSVP at the reception desk or call the COA. Transportation is available.

Monday, Dec. 19, Holiday Concert and Luncheon, noon. Performance by the Monomoy Middle School Chorus. The show is free, lunch is $7. Transportation is available and reservations are required.

Wednesday, Dec. 21, day trip to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. The COA van will leave Chatham at 9 a.m. Reservations are required.

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority is offering free bus rides to seniors over the holidays on “Free Fare Fridays,” which allows seniors 60 and over to ride fixed bus routes beginning black Friday and running through the end of the year. The “Free Fare Fridays” initiative is intended to provide seniors with a no cost opportunity over the holiday season to experience CCRTA’s fixed route bus system serving all of the 15 Cape Cod towns.
