CHATHAM – Due to ongoing construction work, the boat launching ramp at the town-owned Old Mill Boatyard will be closed Monday through Friday beginning this week.

The ramp will be open over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Nov. 24 to 27, but will close again on Monday, Nov. 28. Thereafter, it will be open on weekends through mid February, when the Old Mill Boatyard construction project is expected to be completed.

As of this week, the parking area will also be closed.

The town is engaged in a $1.5 million makeover of the waterfront facility located at the corner of Old Harbor and Champlain roads. The work includes a new bulkhead and expanded floats as well as new infrastructure for the town's shellfish upweller, located on the ground floor of the harbormaster building. The work is funded by a $1 million grant from the state Seaport Economic Council and by the town.

Questions about dinghy storage, ramp availability and boat access during the project should be directed to the harbormaster office at 508-945-5185.
