Chatham Elementary School
Computer Skills
Kindergarten students have been improving their mouse and website navigation skills on the website www.starfall.com. They are working their way through the alphabet with great interactive activities. This is a great site for kindergarten through grade four with lots of reading and math learning. Students in grades one and two have been practicing beginning word processing skills in Microsoft Word 2010. If you have this or a similar program at home, encourage them to type a story or their spelling words for practice. They like to change the font style and size! Students in grades three and four have been learning more advanced features of Microsoft Word 2010, like setting margins, indenting a paragraph, inserting a clip art and moving and resizing it. They are typing thank you letters to soldiers on stationary paper. Ms. Malinowski will be sending them to be put into boxes for care packages for the troops.

Kids Develop Mindset Tree
Kindergarten students in Ms. Chieffo’s class worked together to create a tree that celebrates the development of their growth mindsets. The children identified things they find challenging and might not be able to do…yet, but they won’t give up and soon they will reach their goals.
Harwich Elementary School
Magic Tree House Study
This week Harwich Elementary School began its first background building week for our next Magic Tree House book, The Knight at Dawn. We spent this first week learning about medieval times. We have learned about castles, knights, coat of arms, medieval feasts and market places, as well as horses. Each of us are writing our own fact books with information we have learned about each theme. We have turned our classroom loft into a castle, complete with a great hall for the feast and celebration, a dungeon and will be adding props over the next two weeks as we read and dramatize Jack and Annie's adventures.
Monomoy High School
Non-profit Founders Visit
The co-founders of the 5Gyres Institute (www.5gyres.org), a non-profit organization based out of California, recently visited the school. While on the Cape for Wellfleet Ocean Week, a week-long series of environmental events promoting "More Ocean. Less Plastic," Anna Cummins and Dr. Marcus Eriksen were able to stop by MRHS and speak to our class about the global issue of ocean plastics and their campaign to spread awareness of this crisis.
Student Exhibit
Portfolio students in Ms. Waystack's E-Block created pieces of art on the theme of social activism in art.
The pieces were done for the 30th anniversary of the Violence Recovery Program which provides support and counseling for LGBTQ individuals. At an open house sponsored by Odonata Psychotherapy in Harwich Center, their work was displayed to accolades from many community members in attendance.
