Allan S. Howard, 85, of Canton, beloved husband of Barbara (Whitmore) Howard for 56 years, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016.
Born in Avon, Conn. son of the late John and Anna (Haberern) Howard, he was a lifelong resident of the Avon/Canton, Conn. area spending summers for many years in Chatham. He attended Unionville schools and graduated from the Farmington High School in 1948. He received his BS in accounting from Bentley College and had taken advanced course work at both UCONN and the University of Hartford. He earned the distinction of receiving the highest grade of anyone taking the CPA exam in 1956. Alan began his accounting career at the Hartford office of Peat Marwick and Mitchell and spent time with Knust & Cambria Accounting. He spent many years with Superior Electric of Bristol and retired as a CPA with the Howard L. Page Company of Avon in 1989. He was a member of the CT Society of CPAs and the Hartford Chapter of the National Association of CPAs. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Canton Center and was an avid collector and book lover.
Besides his wife Barbara, he leaves a son David A. Howard of Canton; and a cousin and his family. He was predeceased by two brothers Walter Emery Howard and Elmer Richard Howard. Allan’s family would like to thank the staff of Foothills VNA for the help and care they provided Alan.
A Memorial service in celebration of his life was held Monday, June 13, 2016, 11 AM at the First Congregational Church, 184 Cherrybrook Road, Canton Center. The Rev. Brenda Pelc-Faszcza, Interim Pastor will officiate. A reception followed the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Greenwood Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foothills VNA, 32 Union Street, Winsted, CT 06098 or the First Congregational Church, Canton Center.
