HARWICH ─ In just its fourth year of competition, the Monomoy girls golf program has tucked a pretty significant feather in its cap with their win of the South Sectional Crown on Tuesday.
According to longtime Monomoy golf supporter Jack Farrell of the Eastward Ho! Golf Club, the Sharks took first place in the match, held at the Brookside Country Club in Bourne, with top golfer Jen Keim the day's medalist with a 73.
The win, he said, thrilled the team immensely.
“None of the girls saw it coming,” Farrell said. “They're just so excited, I can't even begin to tell you. This is like the Hoosiers basketball film. It's only the fifth year of the Monomoy program.”
The team reunites next Tuesday at Eastward Ho! for both the team and individual State Championship, which begins promptly at 9 a.m., and will be followed by an awards luncheon. Farrell said fans are welcome to come cheer on the Sharks.
