The countdown clock on the Cape Cod Baseball League's website has reached the single digits and continues ticking away toward one of the most eagerly anticipated days of the year: Opening Day for all CCBL teams.
Each of the league's 10 teams, including Chatham, Harwich, and Orleans, spent the off-season prepping fields and filling up rosters, many with new players, but there will be a handful of familiar faces among the teams.
The Anglers will welcome back pitchers Jeff Belge, Austin Bergner, Dan Hammer, and infielder Spencer Torkelson, along with new manager Tom Holliday, while Harwich marks the return of catcher Brad Debo and pitcher Tyler Baum, with longtime coach Steve Englert at the helm. In Orleans, Jaxx Groshans will be back in the infield, and will likely take the mic once again to perform the National Anthem, while manager Kelly Nicholson calls the shots.
Opening Day games will be June 12 with Harwich hosting Orleans at Whitehouse Field with a 6:30 p.m. start, while Chatham takes on Wareham at Veterans Field at 7 p.m. Weather permitting, the games continue June 13 with Harwich traveling to Wareham (6:30 p.m.), Chatham heading to Y-D (5 p.m.), and Orleans hosting Brewster (7 p.m.). On June 14 Chatham will be at Brewster for a 5 p.m. game, with Harwich traveling to Hyannis for a 6 p.m. start, and Orleans hosting Y-D beginning at 7 p.m.
