HARWICH The forecast threatened rain but runners in the Harwich 5K were undaunted as they took to the streets for the annual event, running into summer in stride.

Crossing the finish line first and far ahead of the pack was Sam Thomas of Brewster who posted an impressive time on the 3.34-mile course of 16:18.2, a full two minutes ahead of second-place finisher Andrew Groff of Lancaster, Pa.

Emilee Palmer of Park City, Utah, was the first women's finisher, crossing the line at 19:08.8, sixth place in the overall race, with Krista Carlson of Boston taking second for the women with a time of 20:29.7.

While the event boasted a number of solo runners, the McIsaac, Moniz, Peterson, and Melon families made a true outing of the run with 10 combined family members competing. This year also saw the return of the Spencer and Hollingworth women who donned Wonder Woman costumes for the run. Meanwhile, Monomoy's Ryan Meehan decided last minute to run the race and ended up placing third in his age group.

The event concluded with the Ember after party and awards presentations, with many runners resting up for the following day's Chatham Harbor Run. The results of the Harwich 5K are as follows:
