EAST HARWICH There were no serious injuries in a two-alarm house fire on Standish Circle Saturday afternoon, and firefighters are credited with saving the family's pet dog from the blaze.

As of Saturday, officials were still searching for the cause of the fire that scorched a single-family house at 16 Standish Circle. Heavy fire was showing from the house when the first firefighter arrived. The blaze had started outside the house in the area of the back deck, and spread to the siding and through the attic.

One woman was taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation, and firefighters searching the house found the family dog and led it outside to safety.

Firefighters were short-handed when the blaze broke out, owing to a traffic accident a short time earlier on Church Street in East Harwich. An unidentified man suffered serious injuries in that crash.  A second alarm was struck for the house fire, bringing in help from Chatham, Brewster and Orleans.
